Black Lives Matter
In light of a series of events in 2020, the world is finally taking a proper look at systematic racism, and shining a light on the Black Lives Matter movement.
We at Re:Store have reflected on the statement 'it is not enough not to be racist, we need to be anti-racist'. That is from a individual perspective, and also from a business perspective.
We have read, started learning and reflecting, and would like to pledge some actions as a business:
- Mentoring for young Black or Ethnic Minority individuals who are interested setting up a small business and need some advice. If this is you or someone you know, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
- Inclusive Recruitment going forwards we will consult with inclusive recruitment experts to ensure our recruitment process, from job description through to interview, is fully inclusive
- Anti-Racist Book Club sharing of important books that will help educate on systematic racism, and sharing of Black and Ethnic Minority stories and perspectives. We will add 'Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race' by Reni Eddo-Lodge to our Book Club box in the shop (at Hackney Downs Studios), which is available to anyone who leaves a similar book for another customer
- Event Space we would like to offer our shop space for use in the evenings, for events that promote anti-racism, or for Black and Ethnic Minority local community groups who are in need of space to meet. Due to the current Covid situation, this will be on hold until we can safely host events.
This is not an exhaustive list, and we would love to hear any suggestions or feedback you have.
