What is Earth Day all about?

You may have seen lots of references to Earth Day on social media and from companies directly, but what is it actually all about? Here's a snapshot!

When is Earth Day?

This year it's today (if you're reading this on the day of publishing!) on 22nd April 2021. On the day itself there are special features, and the ability to join Earth Day Live broadcasts, however the organisation works year round to protect our planet.

What is the Earth Day mission?

Earth Day was set up by EARTHDAY.ORG and their mission is "to diversify, educate and activate the environmental movement worldwide. Growing out of the first Earth Day in 1970, EARTHDAY.ORG is the world’s largest recruiter to the environmental movement, working with more than 75,000 partners in over 192 countries to drive positive action for our planet."

What are they focussing on this year?

This week global summits for youth and for educators have been held to inspire and educate. The campaign to #RestoreOurEarth is aiming to help people understand the power of individual action, as well as promoting 'Climate Literacy' so that the next generation of leaders knows how to govern in a climate positive way.

What can you do?

Don't underestimate how much power you hold with where you choose to spend your money. The phrase 'you vote with your wallet' resonates with us, if you buy products they are unethically sourced, or packaged in a way that will harm the environment then you are telling industry that they should keep doing that. If you choose to spend your hard earned pounds with a company that actively is fighting climate change then you are voting for that too!

1. Check out the resources you can read, pledges you can make and donations you can give here

2. Share what you learn!

3. Look at how you can reduce your impact by eating more plant-based foods, support companies that are fighting climate change, and refill and reduce packaging.

How can Re:Store help?

We are continually adding new products (and are planning to add more over the coming weeks) so that you can refill more and more items on your shopping list and say goodbye to pesky packaging. If you haven't had a look at our range recently, have a little look here. We're always interested to hear what new products you'd love to see, so do let us know!

If coming to the store isn't convenient for you, we offer a Click & Collect service or Home Delivery by electric bike up to 5km from the shop.
